by Maurice Rollinat (1846 - 1903)

La Fontaine
Language: French (Français)
La fontaine du val profond
Luit au bas des vieilles tourelles
Dont les toitures se défont
Et dont les girouettes grêles
Vont et viennent, viennent et vont.

Jamais la mousse de savon
N’a troublé ses plissements frêles :
Elle est limpide jusqu’au fond,
    La fontaine.

Sur ses bords les saules me font
Des éventails et des ombrelles ;
Et là, parmi les sauterelles,
J’arrête mon pas vagabond
Pour lire Virgile et le bon
    La Fontaine.

Confirmed with Maurice Rollinat, Les Névroses, Paris, Fasquelle, 1917, page 159.
