Le Lierre

Non ! jamais je ne vis de rocher plus affreux 
Ceinturé large et dru d’un plus superbe lierre 
Ayant l’énormité verte aussi singulière 
Epanoui si frais sur un gris si cendreux. 

Et pourtant, tout en haut, le fantastique bloc 
Trônait sur une côte absolument chenue. 
Qu’importe ! l’arbrisseau né de la pierre nue 
Avait fait sa noueuse étreinte autour du roc. 

Et comme je quittais le soir ce coin farouche, 
Devinant ma pensée — avec leur voix sans bouche 
Les choseis tristement me chuchotaient en chœur : 

« Ce lierre te suivra longtemps quoi que tu fasses ! 
Pur symbole qu’il est des souvenirs vivaces 
S’obstinant à verdir la pierre de ton cœur ! »
