by Jacopo Sannazaro (1458 - 1530)

Interdette speranz'e van desio
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Interdette speranze e van desio,
Pensier fallace, liev'ingorde voglie,
Lagrime triste, e voi, sospiri e doglie,
Date hormai fin al lasso viver mio.

E se per me non val forza d'oblio
Né per isdegno li nodo si discoglie,
Prenda morte di me I'ultime spoglie,
Pur ch'habbia fin mio stato acerbo e rio.

Usin le stelle e 'l ciel tutte lor prove,
Ch'a quel ch'io sento mi paranno un gioco;
Da sì profonda parte il duol si move.
Gitta pur l'arco Amor, i strali e 'l foco,
Opra li tuo ingegno e le tue forze altrove,
Che nova piaga in me non ha più loco.
