Qual der Erinnerung
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf verborg'ner Rasenbank,
dicht vom Geißblatt überhangen,
weil' ich oft mit nassen Wangen
stundenlang.

Jeder Fehltritt vor'ger Zeit
zieht vor meinem Blick, von trüber
Folgen Heer begleitet, über,
schwer bereut.

Und mein Herz erstarrt vor Pein,
und ich fleh' um Trost die Sterne,
und das Grab scheint mir so ferne
noch zu sein.

Lethe rinnt auf Erden nicht,
denn das Herz kann nie vergessen.
Ach, die Qual ist nicht zu messen,
die es bricht!
