Frei wie der Wind, der sorglos eilt,
Kein Ziel sich stellt und nirgends weilt, Sasa! 
So wollen wir in die Welt hinein,
Ja, so wollen wir frei und sorglos sein. Sasa!

Kühn ist der junge Wandersmann,
Tritt er die erste Reise an. Trara!
Es leuchtet der Sonne Morgenschein
Sie vertreibt die Nacht aus Tal und Hain. Trara!

Schau bei des Eilenden Vorwärtsschritt,
Die Heimat hintern Vorhang tritt. Lala.
Wo, Brüder wird nun die Heimat sein?
In der Welt! Dort in die Welt hinein! Lala.

Note for Hensel's setting: in stanza 3, line 4, word 4 ("Dort") becomes "Fort" in the repetition.
