Wie soll ich singen, wenn ringsum
die Bäume sich entblättern?
Wenn in den Wipfeln, jetzt so stumm,
nicht mehr die Vögel schmettern?
Was ich auch sinne, immerzu
will's ahnend mich durchschauern:
Mein Herz, auch du gehst einst zur Ruh',
so lass nun ab von deinem Trauern!

Es fällt das Laub, es neigt sich bleich
der Tag zum Untergange;
ich war an aller Liebe reich,
nun ist mir, ach, ao bange.
Die mich geliebt, wo weilest du?
Soll ich dich überdauern?
Mein Herz, auch du gehst einst zur Ruh',
so lass nun ab von deinem Trauern!
