Was fallen mir doch immer nur allein
die blauen Augen meiner Liebsten ein,
die süßen Augen, ach, in deren Blick
verschlossen liegt mein ganzes Erdenglück!

Ihr blauen Augen, nun in Schlaf versenkt,
ach, wärt ihr einmal nur auf mich gelenkt
mit all' dem Zauber, all' der Liebesglut,
die, unbewusst ihr selbst, in ihnen ruht!

O Augen voll geheimnisvoller Macht,
o bleibet Sterne mir in dunkler Nacht!
Denn überstrahlt von eurem Zauberschein
müsst' sonnenhelle jeder Pfad mir sein.

Wohl seid ihr, Augen, ach, so mild und licht,
für mich ein blühend Paar Vergissmeinnicht!
Vergäß' ich alles auch, was Gott verlieh,
euch, blaue Augen, euch vergess' ich nie!
