by Armand Silvestre (1837 - 1901)

L'Angélus
Language: French (Français)
Penchés sur le sillon qui fume,
Nos pauvres corps n'en peuvent plus,
Debout au lointain dans la brume,
Voice que tinte l'angélus:
Sainte Vierge Marie,
Que ton nom soit béni,
Ecoute qui te prie,
Angelus Domini, Angelus Domini.

Que le jour commence ou s'achève,
Nous entendrons ses chants joyeux,
Comme la semence que lève,
Il emporte notre âme aux cieux,
Des champs pleins de silence,
Jusqu'au ciel infini.
Ce chant d'espoir s'élance
Angelus Domini, Angelus Domini!

Inclinons un genoux dans l'herbe,
Les mains jointes comme au saint lieu.
Comme à nos fronts que sur la gerbe,
Descende la pitié de Dieu!
Quand il faudra qu'on meure,
Notre travail fini,
Berce ma dernière heure
Angelus Domini, Angelus Domini!
