Elle avait fui de mon âme offensée ;
Bien loin de moi je crus l'avoir chassée :
Toute tremblante, un jour, elle arriva,
Sa douce image, et dans mon cœur rentra :
Point n'eus le temps de me mettre en colère ;
Point ne savais ce qu'elle voulait faire ;
Un peu trop tard mon cœur le devina.

Sans prévenir, elle dit : "Me voilà !
"Ce cœur m'attend. Par l'Amour, que j'implore,
"Comme autrefois j'y viens régner encore."
Au nom damour ma raison se troubla :
Je voulus fuir, et tout mon corps trembla.
Je bégayai des plaintes au perfide ;
Pour me toucher il prit un air timide ;
Puis à mes pieds en pleurant, il tomba.
J'oubliai tout dès que l'Amour pleura.
