Es hat der Herr statt eitlen Gut's
gegeben mir den Sang,
d'rum will ich singen frohen Mut's
mein ganzes Leben lang.

Mein Lehrer soll der Vogel sein,
des Lied im Wald erklingt,
denn ihm auch gab's kein and'rer ein
zu singen, wie er singt.

Ihn freut's, was ihm der Herr beschied,
doch dünkt er sich nicht viel
und achtet's nicht, ob auch sein Lied
just manchem nicht gefiel.

D'rum, wird dafür mir auch kein Lob,
will ich doch tun wie er;
ist mir im Lenz doch stets, als ob
auch ich ein Vogel wär'.
