Haukeligauken

Eg gjekk meg upp på sæterli til jenta mi,
til jenta mi.
Ho va’kje bli, ho sa til meg: kva vil du her?
Du fær meg aldrig i verden lell,
fyr gauken gjele paa Haukelifjell,
og det gjere han aldri, aldri.

Men daa det lei til laurdagskvell eg la iveg,
og gjekk dit lell.
Den veg varbratt, eg gjekk og datt,
kom ’kje fram fyr langt paa nat.
På hella sa tein katt og mol,
men ingen gauk i li-i gol; her gjele han aldri, aldri.

Men daa hu saag eg kom dit daa,
hu blei så gla og svara: ja!
«Eg blei so fjaag, eg saag, du kom, du ska faa rom!
Ho Margit sa at jonsok-kvæll hev gauken gale
paa Haukelifjell,
og ho lyge aldri, aldri!»
