Sur le pont-neuf, entouré de badauds,
Un charlatan criait à pleine tête :
Venez, messieurs, accourez faire emplette
Du grand remède à tous les maux :
C'est une poudre admirable
Qui donne de l'esprit aux sots,
De l'honneur aux fripons, l'innocence aux coupables,
Aux vieilles femmes des amants,
Au vieillard amoureux une jeune maîtresse,
Aux fous le prix de la sagesse,
Et la science aux ignorants.
Avec ma poudre, il n'est rien dans la vie
Dont bientôt on ne vienne à bout ;
Par elle on obtient tout, on sait tout, on fait tout ;
C'est la grande encyclopédie.
Vite je m'approchai pour voir ce beau trésor...
C'était un peu de poudre d'or.
