by Heinrich Stieglitz (1801 - 1849)

Abendgesang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Lege den Schmuck nun an,
Schöne Gulhinde;
Siehe, die Mädchen nahn
Leise, geschwinde.

Hier in dem Vaterhaus
Stille zu leben,
Damit ist's bald nun aus;
Wirst doch nicht beben?

Wisse, mit Herrschermacht
Ziehst du zum Hafen;
Dein wird nun all' die Pracht,
Güter und Sklaven!

Schmücke dich, schöne Braut,
Schmücke dich gerne,
Denn der Geliebte schaut
Schon aus der Ferne!

Note: Loewe adds a rearranged version of the first stanza at the end:
Lege den Schmuck nun an,
Siehe, die Mädchen nah'n,
Leise geschwinde,
Schöne Gulhinde!
