by Christoph Mickwitz (1850 - 1924)

Wir saßen schweigend bei einander
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wir saßen schweigend bei einander
und sahen stumm einander an,
als wollten wir im Blicke lesen,
was jeder tief im Herzen sann.

Und seine lieben Augensterne,
die glänzten mir so schmerzensreich,
die glänzten mir so ernst und strenge
und doch so mild, so froh, so weich!

Da plötzlich, eh' ich recht mich fasste,
ergriff er leise meine Hand,
und stürmisch pocht seitdem mein Herze,
als ob der Druck ihm was gestand!
