Din kind är kall och din panna är våt,

Mitt bröst pressas samman av hämmad gråt
där knä vid bädden jag böjer.

Jag kysser ditt lena hår.
Hör, vingslag susa. Jag känner den gäst,
han plär i dörren rycka;
ty sorgen är när, då vi älska mest,
som då vi jorda vår lycka.

Jag kysser din bleka mun,
Mitt hjärta brister, jag seglar i kvav
på bottenlösa vatten...
