from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Lebewohl
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Hungarian (Magyar)
Lebe wohl, mein braunes Mädel,
Josi muss jetzt von dir zieh'n,
muss hinaus in ferne Süden,
muss die teure Heimat flieh'n.

Doch auch in der weit'sten Ferne
denk' ich dein mit treuem Sinn;
sende dort mit Sonn' und Sterne
Grüße nach der Heimat hin.

Reich noch einmal mir die liebe
Hand, und schau mir ins Auge fest,
denk manchmal des treuen Burschen,
bleib ihm gut und bleib ihm treu.

Sei nicht traurig, herzig Mädel,
ich zieh' ja zu Kampf und Ehr';
heb das Köpfchen in die Höhe,
schau, du machst das Herz mir schwer!
