by August Gemming (1837 - 1893)

Die Abendglocken
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Abendglocken läuten
und tönen himmelwärts;
bald zieht's durch meine Seele
wie Freude, bald wie Schmerz.

Wie Freud', wenn ich gedenke
der Stunden voller Lust,
wo ich, mein Lieb, dich wiegte
an meiner treuen Brust.

Wie Schmerz, wenn ich bedenke,
dass du für mich dahin,
dass all' die schönen Träume
der Zukunft mir entflieh'n!

Die Abendglocken läuten
und tönen himmelwärts;
wann werden sie dir läuten
zur ew'gen Ruh', mein Herz?
