by Karl Stieler (1842 - 1885)

An die Begrabene
Language: German (Deutsch)
Zur tiefen, wellenreichen Flut
blick' still ich niederwärts;
so schlug das Herz, d'ran ich geruht -
wo schlägt dies treue, treue Herz?

Ich lausch' der Lüfte weichem Sang,
der leis' die Nacht durchzieht;
so süß dies' Herzens Sprache klang -
warum, warum ward still sein Lied?

Oft starr' ich in des Herdes Glut,
die flackert auf gar trüb.
So brannt' in Lieb' dein Herzensblut;
hat mich dies Herz denn nimmer lieb?

Zur schwarzen Erde schau' ich dann
voll tiefen Weh's hinab
und fang' wohl heiß zu weinen an:
Dort schläft dies Herz, dies Herz im Grab!
