Io ti domando amore, o mia fanciulla;
ma un pacifico affetto.
Tutto ti chiedo e non pretendo nulla:
quel che vuoi darmi, accetto.

Per esempio, mia cara, io già non dico
che tu fedel mia sia:
mi devi, anzi, tradir con qualche amico,
ma senza ipocrisia.

Farai pure il piacer di non parlarmi,
manco in sogno, del core,
com'io mi guarderò dal protestarmi
tuo solo unico amore.

Resti compreso pur, nei nostri patti,
ch'io non voglio memorie:
né guanti, né capegli, né ritratti,
né fiori, né altre storie.

Lettere mai - s'intende - né biglietti
ci scriverem tra noi.
Credi, che è meglio, al mondo, essere schietti,
per non pentirsi poi.

Discreto amante e tenero m'avrai;
non ti sarò d'impiccio.
Sorrisi e baci, o bella, mi darai
