by Jean Louis Auguste Commerson (1802 - 1879)

Encor un jour
Language: French (Français)
Choose for Diff
« Adieu la gloire, adieu la guerre ! »
disoit u vieux soldat français.
« Je suis rentré dans ma chaumière,
et j'y saurais mourir en paix. »
Cet espoir a pour lui des charmes,
mais au premier son du tambour
le vieux soldat reprend ses armes
et dit : « Servons encore un jour ! »

« Adieu la mer, plus de voyage ! »
dit le nocher sauvé des flots,
« Au sein de mon heureux ménage
goutons desormais le repos ! »
Cependant à peine une étoile
du calme annonce le retour,
que le nocher retend sa voile
et dit : « Vognons encore un jour ! »

« Adieu l'amour, adieu Thémire ! »
s'ecrioit un beau ménestrel.
« Sur moi vous n'avez plus d'empire,
j'en fais le serment solennel ! »
Mais il obtient de l'inhumaine
léger espoir d'un doux retour,
le ménestrel reprend sa châine
et dit : « Aimons encore un jour ! »
