by Luigi Pantaleoni (1815 - 1872)
Translation by Anonymous / Unidentified Author

La Tempesta
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Chosen for Diff
Vedi il cielo che s'oscura
e il nocchier virar di bordo,
la tempesta or' è sicura
sent' il tuono cupo sordo.

Ah! sent' il mare come mugge,
vedi l'onda che spumante
della nave intorno rugge
e minaccia ad ogn'istante.

Senti tu, come rimbomba
da lontano la saetta
e il segnal di nostra tomba
e la morte qui ci aspetta?

Der Sturm
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Chosen for Diff
Seht den Himmel sich verdunkeln,
ach, das ist ein böses Zeichen!
In der Ferne brüllt der Donner,
Ängstlich lauscht die tapf're Mannschaft.

Ach! Horcht dem Meere, wie es rauschet,
seht die Wogen, wie sie schäumen,
wie das Schiff ein Spiel der Winde,
von den Wellen wild umbrandet,
wie zu Wolken es sich türmet,
wie zum Abgrund bald es stürmet.

In der Wut der Elemente
steuert Menschenkraft vergebens.
Seht ihr jene Felsenrisse,
Schreckenszeichen, Schreckensbote,
aufbereitet euch zum Tode?

Note: the additional lines go with repetitions in the original.
