by Helen Taylor (1876 - 1943)

Sitting at home by the fire
Language: English
I'm tired of the hustle, the hurry and bustle,
The fog and the smoke and the mire;
I want to be cosy and dreamy and dozy,
Just sitting at home by the fire.

I'm sick of the spending, the saving and lending,
There's only one thing I desire-
It's you sitting near me to comfort and cheer me,
Just cosy at home by the fire.

I've done with contriving, and scheming, and striving
For pleasures that tarnish and tire;
I'd rather be lazing and watch the logs blazing,
Just sitting at home by the fire.

Let other folks scramble, and struggle, and gamble,
To riches and glory aspire-
My heaven is here, love, beside my own dear love,
Just sitting at home by the fire.
