Sonnenaufgang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn im Schlaf die Blumen nicken
Und der Tau herniederfällt,
Wenn der erste Strahl der Sonne
Rosig grüßt die Frühlingswelt.
Dann, o Herz, kannst du erfassen,
Wie so klein und nichtig ist
All dein Leid, dein töricht Klagen,
Daß du so verlassen bist.

Vögelein, die, kaum erwachet,
Stimmen an ihr frohes Lied,
Von den Wiesen leise wallend
Hoch der graue Nebel zieht. --
Und du hebst den Blick nach oben.
Frieden, Klarheit ringsumher,
Deine Hände leise faltend,
Hast du kein Begehren mehr.

Confirmed with Der Deutsche Correspondent, Baltimore, Md., Montag, den 15 Oktober 1917, page 5, from a PDF at the Library of Congress.
