Toujours suspendus sur les eaux,
Vous ne vous posez pas et vous laissez la terre
Abriter les autres oiseaux.

L'aigle a le roc sublime, et le moineau la tuile;
L'alouette a les verts sillons:
Vous n'avez sous les cieux, vous, qu'une onde mobile,
Alcyons, Tristes alcyons!

De nos âmes, hélas! vous êtes bien l'emblême.
Ballottés d'écueil en écueil,
Nous allons, nous jetons au ciel, comme vous même.
Un cri de détresse et de deuil.

Nous ne possédons, nous, que la vaste amertume
De nos mouvantes passions,
Et vivons, comme vous, toujours sur une écume,
Alcyons, Triste alcyons!
