from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Die Heimkehr
Language: Swabian (Schwäbisch)
Im Aargäu sind zwei Liebi,
die hättet einander so gern.

Der jung Knab zog zu Kriegi,
wenn kummt er wiedrum heim?

Ufs Jahr im andere Summer,
wenn d' Stüdele trage das Laub.

Und's Jahr und das war umme,
der jung Knab kummt wied'rum heim.

Er zog durchs Gasseli ufe,
wo schön Ann' im Fensterli lag.

"Gott grüß' di, du Hübschi, du Feini,
von Herze g'fallsch mer du wohl."

"Was soll i dir denn noh g'falle,
Ha schon längst en andere Ma,

en hübsch und en riche,
der mi wohl erhalte ka."

Er zog dur's Gassel abe
und weinet und truret gar sehr.

Da begegnet ihm seine Frau Muetter:
"Was weinest und trurest so sehr?"

"Was soll i net weine und trure?
Ha jo kei Schätzeli meh!"

"Wärst du doheime gebliebe,
so hättest di Schätzeli noh!"
