Der Sternenhimmel

Gott! wie herrlich glänzt der Abendhimmel,
Wenn ihn deine Hand mit Sternen schmückt!
O! wie selig, o wie hoch beglückt,
Muß sich's wohnen über'm Glanzgewimmel,
Wo kein Kummer mehr die Seele drückt.

Nur dort oben wohnet reiner Friede,
Schon die Ahnung stärkt das müde Herz,
Leichter, sanfter wird ihm jeder Schmerz,
Schwingt es sich in frommem Abendliede
Zu den Sternen einsam Himmelwärts!

Was es hier verlor im Tränentale
Zartes, Liebes, und nicht wiederfand,
Reicht herüber aus dem Schimmerland
Ihm die Hand in einem goldnen Strahle,
Und es knüpft sich fester nur das Band!
