by Henri Francois-Joseph de Régnier (1864 - 1936)

Lied
Language: French (Français)
Le vent balance branche à branche
Les vieux arbres où ont chanté,
Hibou noir ou colombe blanche,
Notre jour sombre ou notre été.

La pluie est monotone et tendre
Sur les feuilles et, pas à pas.
Par les chemins je crois entendre
La tristesse pleurer tout bas ;

L'arbre vieillit du vert au jaune,
Du jaune au pourpre, d'or en or,
Et je vois d'automne en automne
Un passé qui s'effeuille encor ;

Le bois, cime à cime, balance
Le chêne roux et le pin vert,
Et le vent a de grands silences
Comme la douleur et la mer.
