by Friedrich August Clemens Werthes (1748 - 1817)

An Damon
Language: German (Deutsch)
Damon, eile zu dem Hain,
Den wir jeden Mai besuchen,
Unter feierlichen Buchen
Unsre Schwüre zu erneu'n,
Der Natur getreu zu sein;

Und im Pfad der Grazien,
Der mit Rosen überdecket
Sich durch sanfte Höhen strecket,
Immer weiter fortzugehn,
Bis wir ihre Gottheit sehn. --

Welche nie gehauchte Luft!
Schon umströmt mich neue Wonne!
Neue Fluren!  Neue Sonne!
Eine Götterstimme ruft:
Folge diesem Weihrauchduft!  --

Glänzend über dem Altar
Sehn die Grazien hernieder,
Bei dem Klange süßer Lieder;
Und ein sanftes Täubchen-Paar
Bringt die junge Unschuld dar.
