by Friedrich Hermann Frey (1839 - 1911), as Martin Greif

Das Männlein von Brunnstatt
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn die Reben um Brunnstatt blüh'n,
Horcht der Winzer in's junge Grün.
Hört er's klingen,
Leise singen,
Fiedelt das Geigerlein
Kichernden Elfenreih'n
Seltsam und munter,
Drückt er die Beeren mit Kraft,
Daß der herbe Saft
Nur so fließet hinunter --
Wohl, so gibt es köstlichen Wein.

Wenn der Brunnstatter schlecht geräth,
Auch das Männlein geringer thät.
Sitzt am Raine,
Kieselsteine
In den Händen es trägt,
Aeuglein zu Boden schlägt
Geht wer vorüber,
Macht ein verdutztes Gesicht,
Geigt den Elfen nicht,
Weinte selber viel lieber,
Daß kein Brunnstätter nach ihm fragt.
