Frühlings Seele

Es hat der schimmernde Sonnenstrahl
leis' an mein Fenster geschlagen.
Hinaus, hinaus in das lichte Tal!
so hört' ich ihn lispeln und sagen.
Nun geh' ich und träume, 
wie nahe, wie weit?
Ich weiß nicht die Räume,
wer fraget die Zeit?

Ihm seh' ich, ihm in die Augen traut,
dem Fürsten blumigen Hauches:
Ob blau, wie Wasser und Äther schaut,
ob braun wie die Knospe des Strauches?
Die klaren, die feuchten,
wie mächtig durchzückt
ihr göttliches Leuchten,
wie innig beglückt!

Am Boden liegst du, bemooster Stein,
du krachst, vom Hammer zerspaltet,
im weiten Ja alleiniges Nein,
vom Frühling nimmer entfaltet;
was künde, was hehle
weissagend Natur,
das fasset die Seele,
die liebende, nur.
