by (Johann) Gottfried Kinkel (1815 - 1882)

Provençalische Lied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Am Strande der Dürançe
In blühender Provençe,
Da ragt im Sonnenglanze
Des Vaters Schloß empor.

Mich hat der Sturm verschlagen,
Es bringt der Eltern Klagen
Kein Hauch aus West getragen
Zu der Gefangnen Ohr.

Ob noch zu Kirchenhallen
Die Frommen gläubig wallen,
Ob noch die Glocken schallen
Ins Land den Festesgruß?

Weh mir, daß ich mit Tücken
Der Männer Herz berücken,
Mit frevelndem Entzücken
Zum Mord sie locken muß.

O grünt ihr noch, Oliven,
Wo wir am Mittag schliefen,
Wenn kühl in blauen Tiefen
Gerauscht der Rhone Flut?

Stumm ring ich meine Hände,
Nie hat mein Gram ein Ende,
Es schmachtet Melisende
In Ostens Todesglut.
