by Maurice Reinhold von Stern (1860 - 1938)

Waldnachmittag
Language: German (Deutsch)
Feierlich trät das Gelände
Schwimmend in Sonntagsruh',
Blätterbedacht im Geblende
Ruhen wir, ich und du.

Schläfrig schallt in den Zweigen
Zärtlicher Vogelgesang.
Süßes, atmendes Schweigen
Geht seinen Abendgang.

Sonne in goldigen Tupfen
Lagert auf moosigem Grund.
Birsche und Rehe rupfen
Blätter friedlich im Rund.

Fern aus dem Dorf die Choräle
Mahnen an Lieb' und Leid
Und die verdämmernde Seele
Bebt in Vergänglichkeit.

Confirmed with Der Türmer. Monatsschrift für Gemüt und Geist, dritter Jahrgang, band II, heft 10, Stuttgart: Greiner & Pfeiffer, 1901. Appears in Juli 1901, page 363.
