Nachtlied eines Einsamen

Weit, weit sind die Sterne, hin führet kein Steg,
Mein Lieb' ist so ferne und verschüttet der Weg. 
Es winken vom Himmel in seliger Ruh',
Zwei Sterne so freundlich, so grüßend mir zu. 

Wie ist mir im Herzen doch seltsam geschehn, 
Ich glaub' in viel teuere Augen zu sehn, 
Und mir ist's, als hörte ich Engelgesang, 
Als rief es vom Himmel:  wo weilst du so lang?
