by Charles Polydore de Mont (1857 - 1931)

Het dartele water bruiselt
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Het dartele water bruiselt
in ' t breede vijverbed !
Daarover buigt de wilge
heur treurig blarrennet !

Langsheen de rimplende baren,
wiegt fladderend de wind !
De baren zwellen van liefde
en borrelen opgezwind !

Droef zucht de bleke wilge
en buigt zich rillend nêer,
en zoent de spelende baren
van ' t ongevoelig meer.

En langs het spiegelend
water ruist droefeen heimlik lied...
o Water, helder water,
hoort gij dat zuchten niet ?

En van der wilge takken,
lijk tranen, een voor een,
valt weenend de blanke dauwdrop,
als perelen , naar beneên !

En wijl de wilge treuret
en naar het water tracht,
steeds bruiselt en rimpelt de vlakte
gevoelloos, lijzig, zacht !

Confirmed with Karel Maria Polydoor De Mont, Jongelingsleven, Robyns 1879 p.18. Note: the text was written to be sung to music by Schumann. See Der König von Thule (Goethe).
