by Heinrich Heine (1797 - 1856)

Die Gestalt der wahren Sphinx
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Gestalt der wahren Sphinx
Weicht nicht ab von der des Weibes;
Faselei ist jener Zusatz
Des betatzten Löwenleibes.

Todesdunkel ist das Rätsel
Dieser wahren Sphinx. Es hatte
Kein so schweres zu erraten
Frau Jokastens Sohn und Gatte.

Doch zum Glücke kennt sein eignes
Rätsel nicht das Frauenzimmer;
Spräch es aus das Lösungswort,
Fiele diese Welt in Trümmer.
