by Konrad (or Conrad) Hofmann von Nauborn (1829 - 1874)

Was zwitscherst du, lieb Vögelein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Was zwitscherst du, lieb Vögelein,
So frühe schon im Garten?
Du rufst den Frühling schon herein,
Du kannst ihn kaum erwarten.
Du flatterst jubelnd ihm voran,
Du streust ihm Lieder auf die Bahn:
O Vöglein, sei willkommen!

Nicht lange mehr, lieb Vögelein,
Dann muss es Frühling werden.
Es hat gefegt der Sonnenschein
Den Schnee schon von der Erden.
Die Primel blüht, das Veilchen auch,
Die Knospe quillt an Baum und Strauch:
O Vöglein, sei willkommen!
