Afsked med sommeren

Septembersmilet, den lyse himmel,
små hvide skyer i tåget vrimmel,
de nøgne marker i gult og grønt,
og solen, solen! Hvor er her skønt!

Septemberstormen i drøn om huset
i nat og mørke, et bål er suset,
og alt forsvinder og farer hen -
farvel, farvel! Og vi ses igen.

Og atter sank der et år i graven
fra sidste år, da jeg gik i haven
og så det blegne og blive frø -
ja, tiden kortes, til jeg skal dø.

Septembermorgen, hvor alt er stille,
små blomster vugger så morgenmilde
i lune vindpust, som var det vår!
På gensyn, venner, til næste år.
