Lichtkind, mijn lichtkind , mijn lieve, mijn eene,
'k wil om je schreien, heel stil om je weenen,
tranen van blijheid om al je goud licht,
je oogen zijn groot in je witte gezicht.

Weet je de nacht wel, die zwaar is gezonken,
weet je de nacht wel, die licht is gerezen,
weet je de maanschijn, de zilveren pronken,
hel van de sterren wier glans brengt genezen?

Dit is de dag in den eeuw- ouden nacht,
dit is de glorie, de sterre-licht blinkende,
wij zijn twee kindren, ademloos drinkende,
licht-wijn, o lichtkind wie had dit verwacht?

Lichtkind, mijn lichtkind, de nacht gaat voorbij.
lichtnacht van wonder, o je oogen zijn blij ,
wit is je mond in het schemerig licht,
buig tot mij over, o hemelsch gezicht.
