by Rocco Emanuele Pagliara (1856 - 1914)

Invano!
Language: Italian (Italiano)
La serenata ch'io ti cantava
era una lenta nenia d'amor;
nei tristi accordi, io ti narvava
tutto lo spasimo del mio dolor!

Ma invan, tremando, la mia canzone
come un lamento saliva al ciel;
tra' verdi rami del tuo balcone,
tu sorridovi, bella e crudel!

Or la romanza che ti ripeto
con altri accenti vola dal cor;
vibro nel ritmo fremente e lieto
una gioconda storia d'amor!

Ma invano echeggia la mia canzone
nel novo metro gaia e fedel:
tra i vezzi rami del tuo balcone
tu non sorridi, bella e crudel!

Ah! Ah!
