by Adam Gottlob Oehlenschläger (1779 - 1850)

Hvi sjunges evigt om Spartaner
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Hvi sjunges evigt om Spartaner,
Som giorde Fienden Passet trangt?
Behøve vore tappre Daner
I Tiden da vel gaae saa langt?
Har Heltekrast ei sat sit Stempel
Paa egen Daad, i egen Tid?
Behøver Modet et Exempel
Fra Grækenland i Leonid?

Jeg sjunger om en Helt i Norden,
Og Daniel Ranzau er hans Navn,
Saa stor som nogen Helt paa Jorden,
En Sparler fra min Fødestavn.
Som Thor han stod bag Skioldebulen,
At offre Fædreland sit Blod;
Men, Daniel i Løverkulen!
Dig frelste Himlen og dit Mod.

Leonidas stod usorsærdet
Bag Bierget med sin Flok og streed,
Og styrted Perserne med Sværdet,
Indtil han selv i Græsset beed.
Men Daniel paa Heden mødte;
Ei Skiærm bag Klippen sandt han der,
Og Femogtyvetusind blødte
For siretusind danske Sværd.

Jeg sjunger om en Helt i Norden,
vg Daniel Ranzan er hans Navn.
Saa stor som nogen Helt paa Jorden,
En Sparter sra min Fødestavn.
Leonidas stod usorsærdet,
Han Heltedød bag Klippen sandt;
Men Daniel Ranzau stod bag Sværdet,
Og brugte Sværdet til han vandt.
