Holger Danskes vej

Jeg frit mig tumled i Verden om;
   Jeg fulgte mit danske Sind:
Den Røst, der ærlig fra Hjærtet kom,
   I brave Hjerter for ind.
 
I Skoven klang det, alt som man sang;
   Det lærte mig store og smaa;
Mit Skjold og min Livsang gav jeg dog Klang.
   Og tog, hvad der fulgte paa.
 
Den Hedning gav jeg gerne Gudsfred,
   Der bed for sin Tro som en Hund.
Den Kristen smed jeg i Dyndet ned,
   Der kun havde Troen i Mund.
 
Blandt Skovens Ulve tuded jeg ej;
   Til Snoggang stod jeg min Hu.
Jeg kom dog længst paa den lige Vej;
   Den Vej ved Dansken endnu.
