by Bernhardt Severin Ingemann (1789 - 1862)

Havfruen
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Our translations:  FRE
Rød Maanen skinner blandt Stjerner smaa,
Den Havfrue dandser paa Tillie blaa,
Sort Bølgen ruller mod hviden Sand,
Der gaaer en Yngling paa nøgne Strand
    Med Savn paa blussende [Kind]1.

Den Havfrue smiler saa vellystfuld,
Hun synes saa kjærlig, hun synes saa huld,
O! vogt dig, Yngling! o! vogt dig vel!
Saa let bedaares den unge Sjæl,
    Og Midnatstaagen forblinder.

"Kom hid, han sukker, min Længsels Møe,
Som dandser, som svæver paa vilden Søe!
Jeg vandred i Syd, jeg vandred i Nord,
Jeg søgte dig over den vide Jord,
Paa Jord jeg aldrig dig finder."

Afsindig dandser den Vandringsmand
Med nøgne Havfrue paa hviden Sand.
Bleg Maanen skinner blandt Stjerner smaa,
En Stund de svæve paa Bølgen blaa,
    Og i -- Afgrunden forsvinde.
