Nova, no velho engaste azul do firmamento:
E a alma da que morreu, de momento em momento,
Na luz da que nasceu palpita e resplandece.

Ó vós, que, no silêncio e no recolhimento
Do campo, conversais a sós, quando anoitece,
Cuidado! - o que dizeis, como um rumor de prece,
Vai sussurrar no céu, levado pelo vento...

Namorados, que andais, com a boca transbordando
De beijos, perturbando o campo sossegado
E o casto coração das flores inflamando,

- Piedade! elas vêem tudo entre as moitas escuras... 
Piedade! esse impudor ofende o olhar gelado
Das que viveram sós, das que morreram puras!
