Wilde Komponiererei

Ich möchte eine große That thun. Möchte eine wirklich gute Oper componieren, 
was bei Frauen wohl nie der Fall war. 
Meine wilde Komponiererei wurde durch Alexander von Zemlinsky, 
der mein Talent sofort erkannt hatte, in erste Bahnen gelenkt. 
Ich komponierte von einem Tag zum anderen vielseitige Sonatensätze, 
lebte nur meiner Arbeit und hatte mich plötzlich 
von allem gesellschaftlichem Treiben zurückgezogen [..]. 
Es war fast selbstver-ständlich, daß ich mich in Zemlinsky, der ein häßlicher Mensch war, 
verliebte.
