by Gabriello Chiabrera (1552 - 1638)

Amarilli onde m'assale
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Amarilli onde m'assale
fiero stral di novo ardore
di mio bene e di mio male
mio migliore e mio peggiore,
Amarilli ond'io gioisco
pur dal duolo ond'io languisco.

Tu ne vai co'l core altiero
perché Amor nulla accende,
ma dell'aspro tuo pensiero
alto essempio ti riprende
poscia ch'arde, s'innamora
qui fra noi la bella Auora.

D'aure pure un aureo nembo
spande candida d'intorno,
e con Cefalo nel grembo
va volando al suo soggiorno
va contenta, va felice
amorosa rapitrice.

Amarilli deh rimira
quale essempio non ti piega
la bell'alba arde, sospira
per amor lusinga e priega,
io con atti humili ardenti
vuo' pregarti e no'l consenti.
