by Gabriello Chiabrera (1552 - 1638)

Non così tosto io miro
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Non così tosto io miro
il vostro vago ardore
che cessa'ogni martiro
onde m'affligge Amore:
cotanto ha di valore
occhi vostra beltà.

Uscir dal fianco ardente
sospir non ha diletto
né fa sentir dolente
la lingua alcun suo detto
né giù per gli occhi al petto
pur lagrima sen va.

Tutta alfin si ravviva
la mia vita amorosa
qual fior in fresca riva
a l'Alba rugiadosa
o qual serpe squammosa
a Soli de l'està.

Tanto poss'io contarvi
begl'occhi di mio stato;
ma se viene in mirarvi
altri sì fortunato
deh quanto fio beato
chi mai vi bacerà.
