by Jacqueline E. van der Waals (1868 - 1922)

Bede
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Klinkt daar, Vader, in mijn zangen
Geen verlangen
Naar Uw aangezicht?
Min ik meer het effen duister
Dan den luister
Van Uw eeuwig licht?

Meer de onbewogen ruste
Dan de lusten
Van den morgenstond?
Meer het slapende vergeten
Dan het weten
Van der dingen grond?

- Houd tot U mijn lichtschuw' oogen
Opgetogen,
Zon, die ongedoofd,
Mij de aarde en hemel beide
Zou verblijden,
Zoo ik beter had geloofd.

Is daar in mijn hunkrend wachten
Geen gedachte
Aan beloofd genot?
Kan mijn peinzen zich niet heffen
Tot beseffen
Van Uw liefde - God?....
