allor più fere e punge
quando più dolce ti lusinga e t'unge.
Così cantando ahi dura sorte avviene
ch'ingannino i nocchier l'empie Sirene.

De' vaghi fiori d'un leggiadro viso
gioisce chi gli mira,
ma poi sovente ancor piange, e sospira;
così la rosa porporina, e vaga
coll' odor giova, e colle spine impiaga.

Del mar d'un seno il margine diletta,
ma chi lo varca in tanto
da duo scogli d'avorio è rotto, e franto;
così allertando la maritim' onda
spezza le navi, e i naviganti affonda.

Sia bello un viso, non sarò sì stolto,
ch'io mi rivolga al lume,
et all'arbitrio mio arda le piume;
io so ch'il ciel, che tanto ne diletta
implacabil ancor tuona, e saetta.
