by Wilhelm Müller (1794 - 1827)

Des Trinkers Wunsch
Language: German (Deutsch)
O hätt' ich von dem Storche
Den langen, engen Schlund,
Daß nicht mein Magen läge
So nah an meinem Mund!

Kaum fühl' ich ihn am Gaumen,
Den süßen Traubensohn,
So ist er mir hinunter
Im todten Bauche schon.

Drum, Storch, wenn ich mit Weine
Den Mund mir mache naß,
Beneid' ich deinem Halse
Den langen, engen Paß.

Schad' um die lange Kehle
Für dich, du Wasserschwelg!
Und - für die kurze Kehle
Wie schad' um diesen Kelch!

Confirmed with Moderne Reliquien herausgegeben von Arthur Mueller. Nachträge zu den Schriften von Wilhelm Müller, Grabbe, Goethe, dem Maler Müller, Jean Paul und Hoelderlin. Erster Band, Berlin: Adolf Gumprecht, 1845.
