by Friedrich Hermann Frey (1839 - 1911), as Martin Greif

Fremd in der Fremde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Nirgend kann ich lange bleiben,
Ruhelos ist mir der Sinn,
Wolken, Wind und Wellen treiben
Ohne viel Erinnrung hin.

Wenn im Herbst die letzten Schwalben
Fliehen, wird das Herz mir schwer,
Stimmen rufen allenthalben,
Allenthalben um mich her.

Ordnen sich die Wanderzüge,
Folgt mein Auge sehnsuchtsvoll,
Wenn ich mich an Menschen schmiege,
Fühl' ich, daß ich weiter soll --

Wieder weiter von der Stätte,
Die ich wandermüd ersehnt,
An der Liebe goldne Kette
Hat sich nie mein Herz gewöhnt.

Was mich fesselnd möcht' umschlingen,
Bebt mit mir in gleicher Pein,
Mag ich bangen, mag ich ringen,
Immer muß geschieden sein.
